With two-dimensional paper and colored ink,
The mapmaker tries to accurately shrink-
Scaling down , for us to see:
The world’s vast, varied, geography.
“How difficult his task,” I marveled, I cried,
“Like fitting an elephant on a microscope slide!”
Then I came across a psychologist’s terrain-
And the latent potential of the human brain.
How may we interpret and measure
Depths of pain and heights of pleasure?
Volcanos of ideas, grottoes of dreams,
Thoughts flowing across neurons in streams;
Vaulted caverns storing old memories-
In a globe so tiny- all of these!
We’ve mapped galaxies, quasars, and many a far star
When will we decode minds– find out who we are?
