What did Shilpi the sculptor , on that long-ago day,
Want his magnificent monolith goddess to say?
On the profile to the right, the brow is drawn down-
Mouth straight, cheek stiff, the face seems a-frown.
But come over to the left: the lips turn up- so
The eye radiates laugh-lines the face seems a-glow,
From straight ahead, the face is calmly serene :
Focussed on the distance- on something unseen.
What skill and chutzpah had that carver in stone,
To depict the past of man, and his future unknown.
The evolution of the soul through corporal joys and sorrows–
Its journey to an infinite rich series of tomorrows!
