Oothukadu

On the banks of the Cauvery, I  caught  a glimpse of the divine-

In a glowing Chola bronze inside a tiny shrine.

Rampant, rearing tall, a mighty serpent stood,

And an awesome teenage Krishna danced above its hood!

Gracefully he floated, his entire weight

Supported by a thumb on that great snake’s tail!

I’m not well-versed in religion or myth

But across the ages my spirit synched

With that unknown artist!

And a bit of my soul that I’d had thought all mine

Resonated to the spark in that artist’s soul-

Is this what we call the Divine?
